EFL forced to move THREE clashes including Liverpool vs Tottenham Carabao Cup fixture as they launch attack on Uefa

THE EFL have been forced into major changes to THREE blockbuster fixtures after a Champions League scheduling clash caused chaos. In a statement, chiefs said they had been left with “no choice” but to rearrange the games. Everton’s Carabao Cup third-round clash with Wolves had already been pencilled in for September 9 following talks with local stakeholders. Sign up for the Football newsletter Thank you! But UEFA then announced Liverpool’s Champions League showdown with Atletico Madrid for the very same evening. That was despite rules preventing the two Merseyside clubs from hosting matches on the same night. EFL chiefs held talks with UEFA on Monday in a bid to find a way around the clash. But they were told Liverpool’s European fixture would NOT be moved. That has forced the EFL to rip up its original plans and reshuffle other fixtures instead. Everton will now host Wolves in Round Three of the Carabao Cup on September 16 at 7.45pm. And Wolves’ Championship fixture against Portsmouth at the Molineux will NOT be on September 16. They will instead meet on October 20 at 7.45pm. In a statement released by the EFL, they launched a blistering attack on the overwhelming accomodations forced on them by UEFA. It read: “Over recent seasons the League has made a number of changes to accommodate the expansion of UEFA Club competitions. “A decision which was made without adequate consultation with domestic leagues. “These changes have included splitting Carabao Cup Round Three ties across two weeks, and implementing draw conditions for Round Three which prevent scheduling conflicts for Clubs playing in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. “This makes UEFA’s unwillingness to cooperate all the more frustrating, not least for the supporters of the five Clubs that will now be inconvenienced as a result.” Meanwhile, Pompey have come out with their own shock statement as they explained “the knock-on effect” after their Molineux trip had been postponed for a second time. They said: “Due to the extremely late notice of these changes, Wolves are unable to host the game on the original date of September 9. “Portsmouth Football Club are extremely frustrated that our fans, many of whom will have twice made arrangements for this game, are adversely affected.” Comment now
