ED arrests Kolkata man in land grabbing-linked PMLA case

The Enforcement Directorate has arrested a Kolkata-based man in a money laundering case linked to alleged land grabbing and forgery of land records, officials said on Wednesday (September 16, 2026).They said Amit Ganguly was taken into custody on Tuesday night (September 15, 2026) under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).Mr. Ganguly is alleged to have acquired control over properties belonging to different persons and entities through the use of "forged" board resolutions, fabricated agreements for sale containing forged signatures and fabricated deeds and other documents.It is also alleged that such illegal acts were done by manipulation of land records, institution of civil proceedings on false or fabricated claims, denial of lawful entitlements of landowners, and the use of threats and physical force against persons seeking their legitimate rights, the officials said.Mr. Ganguly faces as many as 23 police FIRs registered against him and linked entities by the West Bengal Police, they said.
