CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Assault: Mayfield RoadAt 6:50 a.m. Aug. 28, police responded to a report of a disturbance between a man and woman in an apartment parking lot at 2744 Mayfield Road.At the scene, officers found two men and a woman. One of the men told police that he was driving the other man and woman around and they had been arguing throughout the night.He said the woman got angrier and, as the car stopped in the lot to let her off at her residence, she attacked her ex-boyfriend and spit on him. The former boyfriend grabbed hold of the woman and pulled her from the car, walked her away for a distance, then ran back into the car so that he and the man driving could leave.The woman, however, ran back and, as the car was heading forward, she jumped on its hood, pounded on the hood, then took hold of and broke a windshield wiper. The woman next crawled back into the car through its sunroof as the driver stopped the vehicle. The man who drove, noting the damage done to his car, told police that the woman should be jailed.The woman, 32, told police that the two men took her to an alley and that the man driving said something to her, but she would not tell police what was said. The ex-boyfriend, 35, of Euclid, was found to have scratches on his face, as did the woman, above her eyebrow.Police determined the woman to be the aggressor and arrested her on charges of assault and criminal mischief.Fleeing and eluding: Lee RoadAt 6:55 a.m. Aug. 26, officers were dispatched to the Sunoco gas station at 1905 Lee Road on a report of a suspicious auto. A customer believed someone was sleeping in a Honda Odyssey, which was parked for an hour next to a gas pump.Police pounded on the vehicle’s window and woke the sleeping man. The man, who police were able to idenitify by the car’s license plates, looked at police, put the car’s transmission into the drive position, and drove away. As he drove, officers were still pounding on the car’s windows, telling him to stop.The Honda entered Lee Road, with police in pursuit, and headed north at 40 miles per hour.The Honda traveled at high speed down several streets, speeding through three red lights and a stop sign. Police lost site of the vehicle at Forest Hills and Monticello boulevards and ended the pursuit.Police have filled complaints against the man for several traffic offenses, as well as a felony charge for fleeing and eluding. He is now being sought.Criminal damaging: Warrensville Center RoadAt 4:20 a.m. Aug. 28, a man who lives in an apartment called police when a loud crash woke him. The man looked out his residence’s window and saw a boy wearing a gray sweatshirt enter a black car parked in the apartment’s lot.The report was later amended to include a second suspect.As an officer arrived on the scene, the boy the man saw ran from a black Chevrolet Malibu that had its back window smashed out.The boy ran as an officer chased him on foot, and another in a cruiser. As the boy ran, he threw to the ground a screwdriver. The boy wore a backpack.The chase came to an end when the boy encountered a chain link fence. He was ordered to the ground and complied.A day earlier, it was learned, the boy had been reported missing by his mother. Another car, a Toyota, was found with a smashed out rear window in a neighboring apartment lot.Police were unable to apprehend the second suspect.The county detention home did not accept the boy, so he was released to his aunt.The boy faces possible charges of obstructing official business, possession of criminal tools, criminal damaging, and vehicle trespass, as well as a curfew violation. Theft: Mayfield RoadAt 1:25 p.m. Aug. 28, police were called to Walgreens, 3020 Mayfield Road, where a male theft suspect had left the store and was walking on Mayfield Road.Police located the suspect and found on his person stolen merchandise totaling $261.85.Also found on the suspect, 46, of Cleveland, were two glass pipes and a small plastic bag that contained alcohol wipes and copper filters. The man told police he uses the bag for drugs he takes, but would not specify those drugs.Police cited the man for theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. Assault: Coventry RoadAt 10:50 p.m. Aug. 29, a caller reported that a man and woman were in a stopped Cadillac vehicle and were arguing. The caller believed that a physical altercation was taking place. Police found the Cadillac stopped at East Derbyshire and Coventry roads. It’s passenger side mirror was hanging from the car.The involved man, 67, of East Cleveland, was in the driver’s seat. He told police he was driving the woman home when an argument began and she “went crazy,” doing damage to the car and hitting him in the face. He would not say what started the argument. The man had no signs of injury on his face.The woman smelled of alcohol and was intoxicated and erratic while speaking with officers. She had a bloody cut on her upper lip. She was crying and visibly upset. She said that the man had punched her in the mouth.She admiited to damaging the car and said that she wanted to pursue charges against the man. When the man was arrested, the woman changed her mind about pursuing charges.Police, due to the 64-year-old woman’s inebriated state, went ahead and charged the man with assault and domestic violence. He, meanwhile, complained that his hand was hurt because the woman bit him.Several open containers of alcohol were found in the car, which brought another charge against the man.It was learned that the couple had once lived together.Read more from the Sun Press.
