He shared a video of the insect at the Romano's restaurant that has now gone viral.Dr Seth, Chairman of Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, shared a video showing a small cockroach scurrying around his plate while he was dining at the high-end restaurant at JW Marriott Mumbai located in Sahar, on Saturday night.He posted the video on X and described the unexpected visitor as “Roachie” in a sarcastic caption about the restaurant’s hygiene. He also tagged Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) chief Tukaram Munde, asking him to look into the matter.“Look who came for dinner unexpectedly. ‘Roachie’– a baby cockroach was on our table wanting to share our dinner at the Romano restaurant at JW Marriott, Sahar, Mumbai, Saturday night,” Dr Seth wrote. He added that the group tried to persuade the cockroach to leave but it refused to move. Taking a dig at the situation, Dr Seth joked that the insect perhaps wanted “Pizza and not Pasta”, before saying that the encounter had ruined their appetite and prompted them to leave the restaurant.He also referred to Munde while sharing the post, writing that they were “in Mr Munde’s territory” and suggesting that he would look into the matter. Some users also urged the authorities to conduct a proper inspection of the restaurant and check its hygiene standards.Marriott Bonvoy Assist responded to Dr Seth’s post, apologising for the incident and saying that the matter would be looked into.“Hello Dr Ashok, thank you for letting us know. We take this matter seriously. We would like to look into it for you,” the hotel’s customer support account replied.The incident comes amid growing scrutiny of food hygiene at restaurants and eateries, particularly when customers share videos of insects or other contamination concerns online.In August, The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued notices to two five-star hotels in Delhi’s Aerocity, which included the name of JW Marriott, after inspections uncovered a string of food safety, hygiene, storage and licensing violations.Dr Ashok Seth’s video, meanwhile, continued to circulate on X, with users discussing the incident and calling for authorities to examine the restaurant’s hygiene practices.
