Doctor Doom Just Showed Up The Fantastic Four's Most Powerful Member

Warning: contains possible spoilers for Doomquest #5! Doctor Doom just showed up The Fantastic Four’s most powerful member. The rivalry between Doctor Doom and The Fantastic Four is one of the best in comics. Doom’s ego and unending hatred for Reed Richards has fueled his schemes for 60+ years. And while Richards is the usual source of Doom’s ire, the Latverian monarch has beef with every member of The Fantastic Four, including Reed’s wife, The Invisible Woman. When Sue Storm debuted, she was seen as the team’s weakest member. Even her initial codename, The Invisible Girl, was condescending in nature. In The Fantastic Four’s earliest adventures, Sue was the “damsel in distress,” and was perceived as having a weak power set. Yet, under the guidance of later creators, Sue came into her own, shedding the patronizing alias and exploring the full depth and range of her powers. So much so, in fact, that Sue is now known as The Fantastic Four’s most powerful member. Recently, The Invisible Woman, The Fantastic Four and the rest of the Marvel Universe defeated Doctor Doom’s latest plan, as seen in the One World Under Doom crossover. In the aftermath, Doom has been sent on an odyssey through time, inhabiting bodies as he works his way home. In a preview for Doomquest #5, Doom finds himself in the body of The Invisible Woman. Doctor Doom Outdoes The Invisible Woman At Her Own Game Doomquest #5 is written by Ryan North and drawn by Francesco Mobili. The preview opens with Reed Richards heading out on a mission, unaware that Doom has possessed his wife. After getting some digs in at Richards, Doom then sets out to harness The Invisible Woman’s powers for his own ends, boasting he “alone [knows] her true power.” Sure enough, Doctor Doom manages to one-up Sue Storm. Doom masters the basics of her invisibility quickly, and soon moves onto turning objects invisible. In later years, Sue learned to use her powers for offense in combat, but here Doom learns how to do it with ease. Finally, in his most impressive feat, he creates invisible, humanoid constructs that will serve as his soldiers. These invisible “Doombots” respond to their master’s every thought. Doctor Doom's Victory Over The Invisible Woman Is Only Temporary The Invisible Woman Is Still The Fantastic Four's Most Powerful Member The preview ends with Doctor Doom using Sue’s powers to crush a plane into a tiny mass, leaving fans in suspense over what other abilities Victor may have unlocked. What is clear, however, is that Doctor Doom understood Sue’s powers better than she did, and was performing feats that would take her many years to learn. Doom has studied The Fantastic Four for years, and with his keen intellect, it is possible he stumbled upon secrets about their powers that not even they know. Doom has studied The Fantastic Four for years, and with his keen intellect, it is possible he stumbled upon secrets about their powers that not even they know. However, it is important to note that Doctor Doom was able to show up The Invisible Woman only at this point in her career. When Doom hops into Sue’s body, she is still relatively green with her powers, making it easy for him to outperform her. Yet if Doom went up against Sue in a later time period, then the conflict might go a bit differently. In a way, Doctor Doom’s possession of Sue confirms she is The Fantastic Four’s most powerful member. Sue’s ability to turn invisible brings with it a wide suite of powers, all of which Doom shows off in the preview. Doom’s ability to create invisible soldiers is particularly impressive, not to mention terrifying. It also leads to speculation, namely what other powers Sue might have in hiding. Doomquest #5 is on sale October 21 from Marvel Comics!
