DLSS5VKLayer Wires Up NVIDIA DLSS 5 For Native Linux Games & Steam Play

An interesting new open-source project for those looking to make use of NVIDIA DLSS 5 on Linux is DLSS5VKLayer. The DLSS5VKLayer is a Linux Vulkan layer that works for both native Linux games as well as Steam Play (Proton) Windows games for experimental DLSS 5 support. DLSS5VKLayer takes an interesting approach in that it runs a Windows executable under Wine/Proton and this implicit Vulkan layer passes via IPC the rendered frames to it and then provides the DLSS5'ed frames back to the Vulkan swapchain. DLSS5VKLayer is making use of NVIDIA Optical Flow for vector generation to eliminate shimmering, flickering, and similar artifacts after injecting DLSS 5. DLSS5VKLayer can also optionally make use of NVIDIA Smooth Motion tech too. The Windows NGX neural rendering helper can run under Wine or alternatively a custom Proton compatibility tool. The project provides a Qt-based GUI for controlling the experience as well as a command line helper. This still requires NVIDIA GPU use on their official graphics driver stack.
