Beginning his career of covering film and TV at CinemaBlend, he has also appeared on The Flash Podcast and done several radio spots. One of the stars of Disney’s new fantasy horror series has addressed its season 2 prospects after earning an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score. Coven Academy season 1 premiered October 1 on Freeform, with the series also being accessible on Disney+ and Hulu. The show follows three teenage witches who attend the title institution in New Orleans to learn the magical skills necessary to defend the city against dangerous forces. Coven Academy currently ranks at a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes’ critic-driven Tomatometer, and Malina Weismann, one of its lead actors, has now opened up about where things stand with the show’s future. While speaking with Variety, Weismann, who plays the telekinetic Briar Roberts, expressed her desire for Coven Academy season 2 to move forward so that the character’s love life, as well as her journey of learning alongside her cohorts, can continue. In her words: I am so excited for a Season 2. In every show, in Season 1, you get to know the characters; you get to know the world; you get to know the baggage that everybody is carrying. In a Season 2, you get to actually just live in it and see what happens. I hope that Briar keeps being confused about the two boys. I hope that she continues to figure herself out, and I hope that the three girls just have a lot of fun with life. The show is about identity, so I hope each and every one of them keeps making bad decisions and good decisions and see where that takes them. Weissman’s Brian is joined in Coven Academy’s leading trio by Jordan Leftwich’s Sasha Baptiste, who has empathic and mind-manipulation powers, and Ora Duplass’ Tegan Kimball, who’s able to control time. The two "boys" Weismann mentioned as her character’s romantic interests in the show that is Disney's answer to Wednesday are warlock Jake Dawson, played by Malachi Barton, and vampire Ollie, played by Louis Thresher. Tiffani Thiesen rounds out Coven Academy’s main cast as Miss Emma Graves, the academy’s headmistress who has a special bond with Briar. Other actors who appeared in Coven Academy season 1 include Brendon Tremblay, Swayam Bhatia, BJ Harrison, Nathaniel Logan McIntyre, Cecelia Deacon, Brandon McEwan, Tahmoh Penikett, and John Innes. Additionally, Devon Sawa of Casper and Final Destination fame appeared as a special guest star, playing Peter Cole, one of the teachers at Coven Academy. High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ Tim Federle created the supernatural teen drama, which became Disney+’s number-one series after its first day of availability. ScreenRant’s review of Coven Academy rated the show seven out of 10 stars, saying that while the show is “far from perfect or polished, yet there’s something oddly charming about the series, even with its cheesy dialogue and the supernatural stereotypes scattered throughout.” It’s additionally noted that “the first season feels less like an ending and more like the beginning of something that could become even more magical.” The entirety of Coven Academy season 1 can be streamed on Disney+ and Hulu. Following the first four episodes being broadcast October 1 on Freeform, the remaining six will air in batches of three on October 8 and October 15, respectively.
