This post contains SPOILERS for Avengers: Endgame Encore Avengers: Doomsday is right around the corner, the beginning of the end for the Multiverse Saga and the debut of Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom. However, it remains unclear what it is exactly that Doctor Doom wants, and why he'll be opposed to heroes like the Avengers of Earth-616 in the upcoming crossover. That being said, the new Avengers: Endgame Encore re-release and its new footage may have just shed new light on Doctor Doom's plans in Avengers: Doomsday. With Doomsday's trailers confirming that Victor has suffered great loss, it's also been suggested that Doom sees himself as a corrective force in the multiverse, claiming that the heroes are all living "stolen lives" that they apparently must now give back. Now, Avengers: Endgame Encore provides the biggest clue yet as to what Victor von Doom has planned. This is thanks to one of the four brand-new post-credits scenes featured at the end of the 2019 re-release, offering a dark reason why some characters were not announced as part of Avengers: Doomsday's primary cast of heroes: Doctor Doom is collecting them (and we think we've figured out why). Doctor Doom Collects The Incredible Hulk In Avengers: Endgame Encore's Post-Credits As seen in the second post-credits scene at the end of Avengers: Endgame Encore, it's been revealed that Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner is willingly being held in a seemingly impenetrable underground bunker. Locking himself away ever since he lost control and became "Savage Hulk" once more in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Banner reveals in a recorded message that he's been trying to find new ways to regain control and merge himself with the Hulk again. However, Doctor Doom himself arrives to Banner's shock, wanting to know who he is and how he got into the bunker. All Victor has to say is that he's come to collect Banner, before the camera is knocked aside and glitches, the feed returning only to show the floor covered in the same kind of magical green glyphs seen in Avengers: Doomsday's trailers. Clearly seeking to take Banner elsewhere, one has to wonder what Victor has planned for the Hulk in the future. Additionally, this potentially sheds new light on Spider-Man: Brand New Day's post-credits scene as well, which shows Spider-Man missing from Ned's Spidey Tracker app before being found again in space. Thanks to Endgame Encore, the possibility now exists that Victor is responsible for Spider-Man's disappearance as well (also explaining why Tom Holland has never been confirmed for Doomsday's main cast either). Furthermore, it's possible that Banner's Hulk (and perhaps Spider-Man) is just the beginning of Doctor Doom's designs. "Stolen Lives" - Why Is Doctor Doom Collecting Heroes? Assuming that RDJ's Doctor Doom is indeed collecting multiple heroes, his words in Avengers: Doomsday's trailers become even more intriguing. Speaking of stolen lives that must be given back, it feels likely that Doom won't see himself as this sinister evil force but instead as someone who's trying to do what no one else is willing to do. It'd certainly fit with the Russo Brothers' penchant for sympathetic antagonists with understandable goals despite their dark methods. If Avengers: Doomsday and its setup for Secret Wars does mirror Doctor Doom's role in the comics, Victor will likely see himself as this corrective force in the face of great imbalance, believing that only he can prevent the end of existence following the total multiversal collapse that's imminent (which was further confirmed in Encore's TVA post-credits scene). The Russos have also recently teased that Doom is collecting multiple heroes, making Banner's appearance potentially just one part of the larger mystery. Assuming that Spider-Man is also missing because of Doom, as previously mentioned, it's just as possible that even more heroes are in danger of being captured by Victor, perhaps even heroes from other realities beyond Earth-616 as well. However, the obvious question remains: what does Doctor Doom need these heroes for? All things considered, one idea sounds particularly fascinating when it comes to what RDJ's Victor von Doom might have planned in Avengers: Doomsday. Doomsday Theory: Doctor Doom Is Using Heroes To Trigger Incursions One of the most exciting explanations is that RDJ's Doctor Doom is deliberately and strategically triggering specific incursions to harness the energy created when these universes collide. It's been established that incursions are capable of destroying entire realities. If the multiverse is already approaching total collapse, perhaps Victor von Doom would be willing to sacrifice individual universes to fashion some form of existence in the aftermath for those that remain. After all, the Battleworld of 2015's Secret Wars event in the comics was a patchwork of remnants from various realities that Doom managed to merge together using power harnessed from the cosmic beings known as the Beyonders. Doom then placed himself as "God Emperor" in the new existence he'd created. As such, perhaps the basics of that idea will come into play in Avengers: Doomsday. While saving everything will likely be seen as impossible, Doom may believe that sacrificing entire worlds and triggering incursions to channel their power will let him save other realities, and that this method is the only path forward to avoid complete annihilation. And how are incursions triggered in the MCU? When a person or event accesses another universe and begins interfering and/or destabilizing the barriers between worlds. As such, perhaps Doom is deliberately collecting heroes and sending them to other realities under specific conditions to absorb the power he needs. Imagine how quickly an out-of-control Hulk could trigger an incursion if he were intentionally set loose on another world beyond Earth-616, one where he could do the most damage by design, and Doom standing by to exploit and claim the power generated by the colliding realities. It'd certainly explain the moment of shock, horror, and anger from Reed Richards when he confronts Doom in the trailers, asking him, "Did you do this?!" Of course, this is just a theory for the time being, rather than anything confirmed about Doctor Doom's plans in Avengers: Doomsday. Nevertheless, Bruce Banner's abduction by Doom and the potential implications are incredibly exciting to think about while we wait just a few more months for the next Avengers movie and the end of the current Multiverse Saga as we know it.
