A man knocked on the closed boarding door at Delta’s gate 12 at Bradley International Airport in Hartford. Flight 1330 to Minneapolis was scheduled for 7 a.m. and the clock shows it’s 6:59. He made it before departure! Why can’t he get on? Passengers need to show up 15 minutes before departure. Doors will generally close at 10 minutes out. Video was posted to Instagram on October 4. The man knocks, looks through the glass beside the door, looks around and up toward the monitor, and eventually examines his boarding pass, perplexed. View this post on Instagram Knocking to find out whether an agent can help actually seems reasonable! It’s probably not going to work, but he doesn’t lose it, doesn’t try to force his way through the door. I’ve written about a Spirit passenger who pounded on a gate door after showing up two minutes “early”. I’ve covered United reopening an aircraft door, soliciting volunteers and accommodating a family of three after boarding had ended. What Delta could improve here is the information on the screen. The monitor says “On Time.” It shows the departure time and even destination weather. Maybe add “Boarding Closed”…? Showing “On Time” doesn’t really help after everyone that’s getting on the flight has already boarded. Topics on this page
