Delhi SIR: 47 lakh names deleted, 20 lakh cases resolved; final list on Dec 4

Election officials in Delhi have resolved around 20 lakh cases out of 33 lakh in which voters were issued notices over discrepancies in their details or failure to match their names with the 2002 electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), according to the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer’s office. The CEO’s office said it had launched a proactive drive to address the cases and urged voters with grievances to approach election officials for assistance, reports news agency PTI.Voters can contact any of Delhi’s 14,947 booth-level officers (BLOs), 902 assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs), 70 electoral registration officers (EROs), 13 district election officers (DEOs) or the Chief Electoral Officer, the statement said.Special camps are also being organised to help voters resolve their SIR-related issues. The next camps are scheduled for October 18 and 25, where BLOs will assist electors. The CEO’s office said the Election Commission of India and the Delhi CEO were committed to ensuring that no eligible voter was excluded from the electoral rolls. It added that all eligible applicants who submit Form 6 along with the required documents would be included in Delhi’s voter list.Since the electoral rolls for Delhi’s 70 Assembly constituencies were published on August 31, a total of 2,17,391 people have submitted Form 6 to register as voters, according to the statement.More than 47 lakh voters were removed from the draft rolls out of a total electorate of 1.45 crore. The deletions were attributed to discrepancies in details such as names and ages, as well as the failure to provide information linked to the 2002 SIR electoral rolls. The claims and objections window under the ongoing SIR exercise will remain open until October 30.Election officials are expected to dispose of the submissions by November 30, while the final electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on December 4.- Ends
