Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, on Tuesday launched 150 electric buses and inaugurated four high-capacity charging stations as part of efforts to strengthen public transport and reduce pollution in the national capital. The new buses were flagged off from Swami Vivekanand ISBT Anand Vihar, while the charging facilities were inaugurated at four Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) depots. The charging stations have been established at Nand Nagri, Rohini Sector-37, Nangloi and Keshopur. The expansion comes as Delhi continues to focus on cleaner mobility, particularly in areas affected by high pollution levels.Speaking to reporters, Yadav said, "We are seeing a whole-government approach by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta where different departments are working to achieve the goal of reducing pollution in the city”. Highlighting the measures taken at Anand Vihar, identified as one of Delhi's pollution hotspots, the Union minister said, "Anand Vihar is one of the pollution hotspots in the city. In view of that, all the 11 action points recommended by the Union environment ministry have been implemented here, this shows the political will”.With the induction of the latest 150 buses, Delhi's electric bus fleet has increased to 5,238, taking the city's overall bus fleet to 6,988. The existing fleet includes 1,750 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses. The DTC's total fleet is projected to expand to nearly 14,000 buses by the financial year 2028-29.The addition of electric buses and supporting charging infrastructure is expected to strengthen the public transport network while supporting the city's efforts to curb vehicular emissions. The expansion of charging facilities across DTC depots will also support the operation of the growing electric fleet.432 BICYCLES DISTRIBUTED TO GIRL STUDENTSSeparately, Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood distributed 432 bicycles to Class 9 girl students in Janakpuri under the Vidya Vahini Yojana, aimed at promoting independence and confidence among students. He said around 26,000 bicycles had been distributed across Delhi since the scheme was launched on July 31, 2026.The two initiatives reflect the government's focus on cleaner urban transport and improved educational opportunities, with further expansion of public transport infrastructure and school facilities planned in the coming years.- EndsWith PTI inputs
