DC's Strongest Lantern Color Makes Green Look Positively Pathetic

DC’s strongest Lantern color makes Green Lantern look absolutely pathetic. Green Lantern is one of DC’s most powerful characters. Thanks to their Power Ring, Green Lantern can create hard-light constructs limited only by their imagination. A long-standing member of the Justice League, Earth’s various Green Lanterns keep not only the planet safe, but an entire sector of space as well. In the DC Universe, a Green Lantern Power Ring is considered a powerful weapon. Forged by the Guardians of the Universe, Power Rings draw on the green light of willpower. In addition to the aforementioned hard-light constructs, Green Lanterns can fly at faster-than-light velocities thanks to their rings, as well as translate nearly every language spoken in the DC Universe. The Rings also seem to possess some degree of sentience, choosing a new owner upon the death of the previous bearer. DC has taken great care to portray a Green Lantern Power Ring as one of its ultimate weapons, in the same league as a Mother Box or a Phantom Zone Projector. Yet DC has introduced Lanterns and Rings that can perform feats a conventional one cannot. In the far future of the DC Universe, one such item exists, and it makes the Green Lantern Ring look pathetic. The Gold Lantern Is The Most Powerful Lantern Color Ever The Gold Lantern Could Hold Their Own Against DC's Powerhouses The Gold Lantern, introduced in 2019’s Superman (Volume 5) #19, and created by Brian Michael Bendis and Ryan Sook, was a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes in one possible future for the DC Universe. A human schoolteacher who is blind, Kala Lour was chosen by the Elders of Oa, an evolved version of the Guardians, to be a Gold Lantern. In terms of powers, the Gold Lantern easily outpaces the Green Corps. The Gold Lantern Ring taps into the entire Emotional Spectrum, not just one color. Kala Lour’s ring could do everything a standard Green Lantern Ring can, such as creating hard-light constructs and the ability to fly. What separated the Gold Lantern from the Green was their ring has the ability to manipulate matter on the atomic level, putting them in league with DC powerhouses such as Firestorm or Captain Atom. What separated the Gold Lantern from the Green was their ring has the ability to manipulate matter on the atomic level, putting them in league with DC powerhouses such as Firestorm or Captain Atom. The Gold Lantern was full of potential, but DC failed to capitalize on it. Bendis’ reboot of the Legion of Super-Heroes never connected with fans in the same fashion as previous runs, and when Bendis departed DC, this incarnation of the team slipped into obscurity. DC rebooted the Legion once again as part of its Next Level initiative, but so far there has been no sign of the Gold Lantern. The Emotional Spectrum Is One Of DC's Most Powerful, Fundamental Forces The Emotional Spectrum, which the Gold Lantern Ring draws upon, is one of the fundamental forces of the DC Universe. Each color of the spectrum was ascribed a different emotional drive. Green was the color of willpower, whereas yellow was the color of fear. Other colors had their own corps with an oath and an entity, as well as a ring. These rings were powerful weapons in their own right, ranking up with the ones used by the Green Lanterns. But one serious drawback existed: the various rings seemingly could not be used together at the same time by one person, as it would kill them. A few, such as Sinestro and Kyle Rayner, were able to do so under exceptional circumstances, but they were the exception, not the rule. It would appear that wielding the entire Emotional Spectrum is beyond anyone, even the Guardians of the Universe. Yet by the 31st century, the Guardians had “cracked the code” on how to bring the various colors together to create one of the most powerful weapons the DC Universe has ever seen. The ability to alter matter is unprecedented in the Green Lantern mythos, and hints there may be more to the Emotional Spectrum than originally thought. With the Gold Lantern seemingly out of commission, however, there may never be any follow-up.
