David Tennant’s Netflix Series Confirms Season 3 Filming Start With New Image

A Netflix series starring David Tennant has officially kicked off filming for season 3. While he is a prolific television star, most of David Tennant's shows have not been Netflix originals, including Doctor Who, Good Omens, Rivals, Broadchurch, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Ahsoka, and The Legend of Vox Machina, all of which debuted on other streaming platforms or networks. A notable exception is Jessica Jones, in which he plays the villainous Kilgrave. The Marvel series premiered on Netflix and released its three seasons there, but all episodes have sinced moved to Disney+. Now, Tennant's Netflix series The Four Seasons has confirmed that season 3 production is underway. Netflix made the announcement with a behind-the-scenes image featuring main cast members Colman Domingo, Will Forte, Tina Fey, Erika Henningsen, Marco Calvani, and Kerri Kenney-Silver reunited and all smiling while on set. Check out the image below: Credit: Netflix Tennant made his series debut in The Four Seasons season 2 finale as Gianpiero, a neighbor and new potential love interest that Anne (Kenney-Silver) meets after deciding to stay in Italy. While this was a cameo, and the Doctor Who star hasn't officially been confirmed as part of season 3's cast yet, series co-creator Tracey Wigfield previously shared with Decider that his cameo was meant to set up a return in the upcoming season. Tina, the first person she said was, "Well, someone like David Tennant, like a David Tennant kind of guy, as her [Anne’s] neighbor." We were so thrilled that we went to him first and he said yes. He flew in and we shot it — it was just the one scene — so we shot it in one day, and he’s so lovely and he looks so good with Kerri. Anne obviously has been on a journey in Season 1 and then Season 2 as well, you know, she’s trying to be Anne 2.0 and have this sort of personal renaissance, but it’s not going great. So there was something really exciting when we were thinking about a cliffhanger for a possible Season 3 of having a romantic cliffhanger, and someone that you would get so excited to see more stories with. As indicated by the behind-the-scenes filming image, the main cast of The Four Seasons will seemingly stay the same in season 3, but Tennant could still appear as a recurring or guest star. Even if Anne and Gianpiero are now a romantic couple and still both living in Italy, he does not necessarily have to attend all four of the friend group's vacations, especially since more than one of them will probably be in the United States, as was the case in the prior two seasons. Not making Tennant a series regular also makes sense given the actor's busy schedule. He is in Only Murders in the Building season 6, which only wrapped filming within the past month, and has many upcoming projects that have not gone into production yet, including Rivals season 3. Beyond Tennant's return as Gianpiero, there is the question of whether Steve Carell will return as Nick in season 3. In the show's biggest twist yet, Nick died in a car crash during season 1's penultimate episode. Season 2 was largely about grieving his character, but Carell did reprise the role in flashbacks, which was kept under wraps before the episodes were released. With season 1 releasing on May 1, 2025, followed by season 2 on May 28, 2026, the show has been releasing on a consistent annual basis so far. With season 3 filming beginning now, this release trend is poised to continue, with a 2027 release window appearing to be feasible. The Netflix comedy-drama series is based on Alan Alda's 1981 The Four Seasons movie, although it has made numerous changes from the source material, including the death of Nick. Alda appears in seasons 1 and 2 as Anne's father, Don. Beyond Nick and Anne, the other couples in the friend group are Jack (Forte) and Kate (Fey), along with Danny (Domingo) and Claude (Calvani). Ginny (Henningsen) is Nick's girlfriend and has become a genuine part of the group, all while she raises her and Nick's son. All episodes of The Four Seasons season 1 and 2 are streaming on Netflix.
