Blue Jays executive David Bell has left his position with the team, reports Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Bell served as assistant general manager and vice president of baseball operations for the past two seasons. “I decided to step away and reassess where I can make the greatest impact, on and off the field,” Bell told The Athletic. “The Toronto Blue Jays are a first-class organization. I have a deep appreciation for the people I’ve worked with over the past two years.” Shi Davidi of Sportsnet reports that the organization will look for someone to take over Bell’s duties. He adds that Bell was involved in player acquisitions and also oversaw the player development and performance departments. Toronto still has two AGMs, Joe Sheehan and Michael Murov, operating under general manager Ross Atkins. The organization also has James Click (baseball strategy) and Jeremy Reesor (baseball operations) in vice president positions. The gig with the Blue Jays was the first foray into the front office for Bell. Before coming to Toronto, he’d spent six seasons as the manager of the Reds. Cincinnati made the playoffs once in his half-dozen years with the club. He was fired at the tail end of the 2024 season. Bell had previously worked in various roles for the Cubs, Cardinals, and Giants. Bell arrived in Toronto at the perfect time. After finishing last in the division in 2024, the team won 94 games to take the AL East in 2025. The Blue Jays marched all the way to the World Series, where they came up just short against the Dodgers. The 2026 campaign didn’t go as well. Toronto flip-flopped again, finishing last in the division. Poor health luck was a major factor. Photo courtesy of Mark J. Rebilas, Imagn Images View Comments (1)
