David Beckham’s Tudor Black Bay Chrono ‘Flamingo Blue’ Is His Most Striking Watch Yet

2 min readDavid Beckham could essentially wear anything and still look ridiculously good, but his wardrobe has become decidedly less colorful over the years. That is, unless you take a look at his bold Tudor watch collection.Throughout the summer, at the World Cup and Wimbledon, he showcased a number of bold timepieces from the Swiss brand. The same was true when he turned up to an Inter Miami training session on Tuesday, where he pulled on a Flamingo-inspired Tudor Black Bay Chrono.And before you ask why it’s got flamingo in the name but isn’t pink: The “Flamingo Blue” model actually takes its cues from the vivid turquoise associated with the tropical habitats of flamingos, rather than their feathers, giving the chronograph its unmistakable dial.Courtesy of TudorIt’s a suitably Miami-ish color for a watch that Tudor itself describes as having a “South Beach vibe,” and it certainly marks a change from the usual black, blue, and silver chronographs.The $7,000 watch comes in a 41mm stainless-steel case that’s 14.4mm thick, so this is not exactly a shrinking violet. It’s finished with contrasting black chronograph counters and a fixed bezel with a tachymetric scale. There’s also a date window tucked away at six o’clock, while the whole thing is topped with a domed sapphire crystal.Inside is Tudor’s manufacture caliber MT5813, an automatic chronograph movement with a column wheel and vertical clutch. It’s COSC certified, has a silicon balance spring, and offers around 70 hours of power reserve, so it’s considerably more than just a pretty face. The watch is also water-resistant to 200 meters but, as Beckham shows, can just as well be used for a kick-around.The bracelet is perhaps the most traditionally Tudor part of the whole thing: a five-link stainless-steel number, finished with a T-Fit clasp that allows the wearer to make quick adjustments without tools.Cortesy of TudorPaired with his tattooed arm, sunglasses, navy T-shirt, and shorts, the bright-turquoise dial manages to look surprisingly at home upon Beckham’s arm. It’s sporty, a little bit flashy, but, most importantly, doesn’t look like he’s tried too hard.
