‘Dark Winds’ Zahn McClarnon Receiving Santa Fe International Film Festival’s Visionary Award

The Santa Fe International Film Festival will present its Visionary Award to Dark Winds actor Zahn McClarnon on October 16 at the Lensic Performing Arts Center in Santa Fe, NM. McClarnon plays Lt. Joe Leaphorn in the AMC series Dark Winds executive produced by George R.R. Martin and the late Robert Redford. McClarnon also serves as an EP and director (Season 4, episode 2) for the series, which just wrapped its fifth season. Based on Tony Hillerman’s Leaphorn & Chee novels, Dark Winds follows two Navajo police officers in the 1970s as they investigate numerous seemingly unrelated crimes in the American Southwest. The series is shot in Santa Fe. McClarnon also played Officer Big in the FX series Reservation Dogs, earning him a Film Independent Spirit Award for Best Ensemble Cast in a New Scripted Series. Watch on Deadline Other standout roles include Officer Mathias in Longmire, Akecheta in HBO’s second season of Westworld, and Hanzee Dent in the second season of FX’s Fargo. McClarnon was a series regular on National Geographic’s Barkskins, opposite Marcia Gay Harden and David Thewlis. He also starred on AMC’s The Son. His film credits include The Silencing, with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep. On television, he has recurred on Disney+ and Marvel Studio’s Hawkeye and Echo. Additional credits include Hulu’s History of the World, Part II, the Jennifer Lawrence comedy No Hard Feelings, and Tony Tost’s Americana. He also voiced Olrox in Netflix’s animated series Castlevania: Nocturne. “Zahn McClarnon brings authenticity and excitement to each of his roles. His entrée into directing makes him an exemplary person to receive the Visionary Award,” said Santa Fe Film Festival executive director Liesette Bailey.
