Sign in to your ScreenRant account DLSS 5 has had a mixed reaction from gamers. In some instances, it boosts details, textures and lighting effects to breathe new life into older games. Other times, though, it looks no better than a cosmetic filter you'd find on Snapchat or TikTok. With AI feeling like a dirty word, the gaming community has mixed feelings over DLSS 5, but occasionally the results are undeniable. Microsoft Flight Simulator 4 isn't the only game that now looks almost photo realistic. Step forth Ashen one, it's time to rekindle the flame once again. Dark Souls 3 has never looked better. A recent reveal clip on YouTube shows exactly how DLSS 5 can transform older titles to reach incredible levels of visual fidelity. The gameplay clip is taken from Dark Souls 3. It shows the player exploring Crucifixion Woods and reveals just how effective AI rendering can be when applied to the right game. Everything from the reflections on the water, to the light beam piercing through the thick tree branches, looks absolutely glorious. This nearly 10-year-old game now looks better than most AAA titles currently releasing in 2026. The Dark Souls 3 clip shows the player switching between DLSS 5 on and off and the stark differences are immediately apparent. Even the shine off the player's armor looks amazing with DLSS 5 applied and rewatches of the clip reveal the level of detail that can be achieved thanks to this breathtaking technology. And yes, the results on display are on a very high-spec PC, but hopefully dramatic results can be achieved on older hardware once it's been around for a while. Where results and opinions about DLSS 5 usually vary dramatically, the comments for Dark Souls 3 using DLSS 5 are unanimous. Everyone is in agreement that this looks incredible and shows the future of PC gaming. One commentor said: Bro look at all the shadows from those leafs on the bottom of the water, this looks absolutely insane. And another: Bro, you're gonna be the reason for me to play this game again. Looks are absolutely fantastic Keep it going brother 🎉 With all the love in the gaming community for Dark Souls 3 and Soulslike remakes, it would seem that DLSS 5 is the perfect excuse to jump back into this epic, yet challenging adventure. And if Crucifixion Woods can look this good, imagine staggering from the catacombs and seeing Irithyll of the Boreal Valley for the first time as it bathes in the eerie moonlight. Or better again, the Dancer of the Boreal Valley emerging from the shadowy dark with its graceful movement and flame blade lighting up the room. DLSS 5 launched officially on September 3, 2026, with NBA 2K27 leading the charge. Official support for more games like Dark Souls 3 is expected throughout 2027, so until then, it's unclear just how successful this new technology will become. Early signs, though, would indicate that remakes like Assassin's Creed: Blackflag Resynced might become a thing of the past, if our own PC can effectively render a remake in real time. Half-Life 2 in 4K with AI rendering perhaps? One can but dream.
