Cycling ace threatened with GUN and has phone robbed while heading to training session but police ‘can’t do anything’

CYCLING star Oscar Sevilla was threatened with a gun and robbed of his phone while heading out for a training session. The 49-year-old was attacked in Colombian capital Bogota yesterday morning as he made his way along the North Highway near 170th Street. They allegedly intimidated the Spanish-Colombian rider with a firearm before stealing his mobile phone. Sign up for the Sport newsletter Thank you! However, they were unable to take his bicycle during the terrifying incident. Sevilla took to X to reveal exactly what happened during his morning training ride. Thankfully, he was left physically unharmed following the robbery. Last night, he wrote: “Today, 8:20 a.m., I went out to train and on the Highway with 170th Street I was intercepted by a high-cylinder motorcycle. They threatened me with a firearm. They couldn’t steal my bicycle, but they did take my cell phone. “A patrol car passed by, I reported the incident and they told me they couldn’t do anything.” Sevilla nicknamed ‘El Niño,’ has lived in Colombia for years and currently competes for Team Medellín-EPM. He won the white jersey (awarded to the best young rider in the overall time standings) at the 2001 Tour de France and finished second in the 2001 Vuelta a España after wearing the race leader’s jersey. He was later linked to the 2006 Operacion Puerto doping investigation but was not suspended, before receiving a two-year ban in 2010 after testing positive for a blood-thinning substance. Sevilla has since returned to racing with EPM and has remained a prominent figure in Colombian cycling, continuing to compete professionally. Comment now
