When he's not writing, you may find him editing on his favorite anime, movie, or pop star on his Instagram. Solo Leveling has changed the game for manhwa adaptations, and Crunchyroll clearly wants a lot more of that success. Sung Jinwoo's rise from the weakest hunter to an absolute powerhouse turned the series into a global hit, putting Korean webtoons firmly on the anime industry's radar. With Tomb Raider King easily winning over the community during the summer block, and the highly anticipated Overgeared is already gearing up to dominate the fall lineup, the next big manhwa obsession could be just around the corner. And now, the entire webtoon adaptation scene just got an unprecedented power-up. Crunchyroll just made a major move, announcing a partnership with Line Digital Frontier and Hayate Inc. to co-produce adaptations of around 15 webtoon titles. That's a pretty huge lineup, especially for viewers who've been waiting to see more manhwa hits get the anime treatment. The first three projects have already been announced, giving a taste of what's coming as Crunchyroll looks to build on Solo Leveling's success. Crunchyroll Capitalizes On The Solo Leveling Popularity With An Unprecedented 15-Title Partnership Custom image created by Evan D. Mullicane Kicking off its aimed 15-title plan, Crunchyroll announced anime adaptations of three popular webtoons during its recent showcase: The Boxer, Teenage Mercenary, and The Remarried Empress. The lineup goes well beyond the hunter and leveling formula that helped make Solo Leveling such a hit. With Tomb Raider King and the recently announced SSS-Class Revival Hunter also joining the anime scene, there's no shortage of familiar power fantasies, but these three picks bring something different to the table. The Boxer is a psychological sports drama about Yu, a young fighter with almost unnatural talent and a strangely detached attitude. He's a far cry from Hajime no Ippo's Ippo Makunouchi, whose love for boxing drives him to keep improving. Yu, on the other hand, can overwhelm opponents without showing much emotion, making his rise through the sport a very different kind of story. Teenage Mercenary takes things in another direction, following Yu Ijin, a former child mercenary trying to adjust to ordinary high school life after returning to his family in South Korea. Unfortunately, years of combat experience make a normal teenage life difficult when trouble keeps finding him. J.C.STAFF is producing the anime, scheduled for 2027, with Solo Leveling composer Hiroyuki Sawano handling the music. Then there's The Remarried Empress, which trades brutal fights for royal politics, betrayal, and revenge. After Emperor Sovieshu asks Navier for a divorce, the empress makes a move of her own, agreeing to the separation on the condition that she can marry Prince Heinrey. Studio TROYCA is producing the adaptation, also scheduled for 2027. These stories couldn't be much more different, and that's what makes Crunchyroll's 15-webtoon project worth watching. The next big hit doesn't necessarily have to be another Solo Leveling. Crunchyroll's First Three Picks Prove The Next Hit Doesn't Have To Be A Solo Leveling Clone Solo Leveling set a pretty high bar for manhwa adaptations, and Crunchyroll is betting that the next big hit doesn't have to be another story about a guy who keeps unlocking new powers. The Boxer, Teenage Mercenary, and The Remarried Empress already cover three very different genres, with 12 more titles still to be revealed. That's the exciting part: the next breakout could be a brutal boxing drama or a revenge story about an empress rather than another dungeon raid. There is one thing the platform can't afford to get wrong, though: the animation. The Beginning After the End learned that lesson the hard way in 2025, when its anime drew heavy criticism over its visuals and animation quality. A popular webtoon can bring in an audience, but that won't count for much if the adaptation leaves longtime readers disappointed. These stories already have fans invested in their characters and artwork, and the anime needs to give them a reason to stick around. Crunchyroll has a real opportunity here, especially if the remaining projects get the production time and care they need. Solo Leveling has already shown what can happen when a manhwa adaptation connects with anime fans worldwide. Now the question is whether these 15 projects can turn that success into something bigger than one breakout hit.
