In separate incidents, police stopped several drivers showing felony warrants, with custody transferred.Thomas Jewell, Special to cleveland.comBy Thomas Jewell, special to cleveland.comORANGE, OhioCivil matter: Park AvenuePolice were called in to Pinstripes around 10 p.m. Sept. 5 with a manager reporting that a man had refused to pay a wedding rehearsal dinner tab totaling over $15,000.Management explained he had signed a contract with the establishment to pay the total amount due at the conclusion of the event.Police then spoke with the customer, who believed he’d been overcharged by the restaurant.Officers confirmed his name on the contract as the responsible party for the bill. They told him that due to the amount, he could face felony theft charges.Saying he fully understood, he still declined at that point to pay any of the bill.After police conferred with both parties, they agreed to a new balance of $9,913. However, the man was only able to pay $7,500 at that time.He then signed a payment demand notice for the remaining $2,413. Police believed this made it a civil matter going forward and compiled an informational report for documentation.Traffic stop, I-271A patrol officer stationed on the freeway clocked a northbound Nissan sedan going 85 mph in a 60-mph zone at 8:43 p.m. Sept. 4.A computer check showed the temporary tag expired and a suspended license for the driver, a Cleveland man, with an active warrant from Maple Heights.Officers agreed to meet in Lyndhurst to transfer custody.Traffic stops, Orange PlaceA patrol officer noticed a Volkswagen Atlas stopped at the Harvard Road traffic light on the night of Sept. 1 with a driver showing a felony warrant with Mayfield Heights police.It turned out that her male passenger had a felony warrant out of Mayfield Heights as well, with arrangements made to transfer custody in Lyndhurst.-- On the evening of Sept. 7, an officer parked at Orange Village Family Dentistry saw a Kia Soul whose driver was not wearing his seat belt.After being stopped, the driver, a Cleveland man, explained that he was Door Dashing at the time. However, police found he did not have a driver’s license, only a state identification card -- as well as a felony warrant through the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department for a probation violation.While the passenger and owner of the car wasn’t wearing her seatbelt either, she did have a license, so the car was turned over to her as police took the driver to the county jail.Get police blotters by email every weekday for free with our Police Blotter newsletter.
