He largely carried out his attacks in the Manchester area and became known as “The Coronation Street Rapist” because his victims mainly lived in terraced houses in the north of England. Davies, who was locked up at Category C prison, HMP Moorland, was set free after 34 years behind bars but was recalled just six weeks later after breaching his license conditions. Prior to his release, the Parole Board rejected an application from then Justice Minister and Deputy PM, Dominic Raab, to cancel his scheduled release. The report reads: “In October 2017, Mr Andrew Davies was sentenced to life imprisonment for sexual offences. “He died of brain cancer on 28 February 2026, at HMP Moorland. We offer our condolences to Mr Davies’ family and friends. “The Ombudsman’s office wrote to Mr Davies’ next of kin to explain the investigation and to ask if they had any matters they wanted us to consider. They did not respond.” The statement added: “They found no factual inaccuracies. At the inquest, held on 8 April 2026, the Coroner concluded that Mr Davies died from natural causes.” His death has come as a relief to his victims, with one telling Manchester Evening News it was a “very difficult feeling to handle”. In 1987, Davies had raped her in her own bed at knifepoint and she said “I still relive what he did to me”. He also attacked a 26-year-old woman in her Sheffield home while her terrified three-year-old daughter hid behind a settee. In 1988, he was sentenced for raping 11 women and slapped with 11 life sentences with an additional 56 years for other offences. He was then handed an additional two life sentences in 2010 and 2017 respectively for rapes he committed in 1981 and 1982. Comment now
