Images 2.6 speeds up image creation; ChatGPT now makes 4B images/week. Despite being around for decades now, the humble GIF is still the format of choice when creating silly memes to post on Facebook. However, asking an AI to help you make a GIF isn't as well supported as it could be. Fortunately, OpenAI is fixing that with a new tool that lets you generate and edit GIFs in ChatGPT. ChatGPT is getting GIF generation in Images 2.6 Making cat reaction GIFs has never been easier As reported by The Verge, OpenAI is adding GIF generation to ChatGPT's Images 2.6 rollout. Beforehand, you couldn't just tell ChatGPT to make a GIF and have it complete the task in a single step. Now, with this new generator, you can ask for an animation in GIF format, and it'll make one right away. The example OpenAI showed off involved someone asking, "Can you make a GIF of a cat dancing?", which at least shows that OpenAI knows exactly what people are going to be using this new feature for. Sure enough, ChatGPT makes the GIF, and the user can tweak how fast it plays and see the frames that went into making the animation. Images 2.6 is more than just a GIF maker, though. OpenAI claims that it'll enable faster image generation, which is good news, because according to the company, ChatGPT churns out 4 billion images a week via the web app and the API, up from 3 billion in September. And now, with cat GIF memes as part of ChatGPT's repertoire, we'll likely see that number go up even further.
