Charlie Hunnam and Ben Affleck's R-rated thriller film needs to have a sequel after a recent update about plans for a follow-up. Hunnam and Affleck have both had plenty of working opportunities with Netflix in recent years, each playing into their strengths as actors. For Hunnam, he starred in Monster: The Ed Gein Story, the third installment of Ryan Murphy's killer-focused anthology series. He went on to portray Lizzie Borden's father, Andrew Borden, in the following season, Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story. Affleck's newest movies have been produced with Netflix, too. This includes The Rip, a high-octane action thriller starring Affleck and Matt Damon who work for a narcotics unit, finding a massive amount of money stored in a home during a raid. The newest movie he's starred in on the platform is the crime thriller Animals, where he plays an LA mayoral candidate forced to confront his darkest secrets after his son is kidnapped for ransom. Both actors have had strong trajectories on the platform with their respective works. But their recent work is far from the only shows or movies they've starred in on Netflix. Hunnam and Affleck also collaborated on a 2019 action movie that earned generally positive reviews upon release: Triple Frontier. The action adventure movie sees Hunnam and Affleck as former members of a US Army Delta Force group, reuniting after many years in hopes of robbing a South American crime boss of millions of dollars. However, as the team's mission plays out, they are faced with a number of dangers that could threaten the very existence of the lives they've built for themselves. Triple Frontier Is A Great Netflix Action Movie With An Incredible Cast Reviews for Triple Frontier have been positive since it was initially released. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has a 71% rating from critics based on 139 reviews. In addition to the stellar performances of the core duo, the movie also stars Oscar Isaac, Garrett Hedlund, Pedro Pascal, and Adria Arjona. All of their characters have a role to play in the attempted heist, with a core element of the movie being how they work together after having built entirely different lives for themselves after leaving the army. The cast is just one strong element of the film, too. The other is an action focus that affords plenty of high-octane moments that define the movie's presentation. While the heist is the end goal, the group faces many dangers on their journey across South America that make for some incredible, high-end action scenes in the process. The action movie keeps its focus on its characters, though, with the core cast getting plenty of proper development to make them stand out before some of the larger sequences of the film take shape. Why Triple Frontier 2 Should Happen (& What We Know) The first movie may just be the beginning of a larger story set to take place. In 2023, Hunnam revealed he signed on as a producer for Triple Frontier 2, which was said to be in the early stages of development. However, by 2026, it was unclear when Triple Frontier 2 would actually happen. According to co-star Hedlund, there's no guarantee as to what the future of the movie looks like. Hunnam's busy shooting schedule coupled with the script being in early stages means it's unclear when the movie will happen. But, with Triple Frontier ending on a note that lays the groundwork for a potential sequel, it only makes sense for it to happen at some point. Even though there's no telling how involved both Affleck and Hunnam may be in the movie, there's a clear interest in the film's universe continuing. This could aid in the movie scoring a guaranteed future that adds a new chapter into its action-focused universe. Release Date March 6, 2019 Runtime 125 minutes Director J.C.
