Charity staggered to return to Emmerdale home – but heartbreak looms

So much has happened (Picture: ITV) Freedom is on the cards for incarcerated Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) after Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) finally plans to right a wrong in Emmerdale. But it’ll come at a cost. Charity’s been wrongfully banged up for weeks on a murder charge thanks to Sarah. Charity took the fall for Sarah accidentally killing Todd (Caroline Harker) by claiming it was self-defence, and all might have been ok if Sarah hadn’t found out Charity had lied about baby Leyla and changed her story to punish her. Charity was charged with murder for that. Charity faced hell inside, being forced to have a full body search after someone planted drugs in her cell. It triggered a PTSD episode and a race to get her out. The Dingles tried to weigh in and make Sarah change her story, but being the most stubborn of the lot, she flat refused. Even Cain had no power to force Sarah to act. It was Mackenzie’s (Lawrence Robb) threats to destroy her with the truth that forced Sarah to act. She marched to the police station to change her story right back. It was a bit of a shock to learn that the law doesn’t work like that and her attempt to exonerate Charity only made things worse. But then Sarah was dealt a lucky hand when she spotted Serena (Casey Al Shaqsy) and Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) in cahoots and realised a chance at using some leverage. Shaken by Sarah’s threats, Serena visits Charity in prison, who is rather surprised that she’s there to chat about Sarah. Thea attempts to go straight to the source and get Sarah to get her to back off directly. It does not have the desired effect. When Thea spots Serena back in town, she’s eager to know how things went with Charity, but it’s bad news. There’s no way out of this one without Thea’s hand being forced to do Sarah’s bidding.
