Centre agrees to procure sunflower, green gram, and soyabean crops at MSP in Karnataka

A representative of a trader inspecting the quality of the Green Gram that arrived in the wholesale market in Kalaburagi on August 28, 2026. | Photo Credit: Photo for representation only The Centre has given clearance for procurement of sunflower, green gram, and soyabean grown in this khariff season in Karnataka at Minimum Support Prices (MSP).Responding to a request by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan replied on September 28, informing that his ministry has approved the proposal from the Karnataka government for procurement of 13,413 Metric Tonnes of sunflower, 38,250 Metric Tonnes of Green Gram, and 1,15,500 Metric Tonnes of Soyabean of kharif 2026-27 at MSP.In July, farmers had organised a day-and-night indefinite agitation in Hubballi seeking the release of proceeds for green gram purchased under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme, pending for six-seven months.The farmers launched the indefinite agitation under the aegis of Raita Sena Karnataka in front of the office of the Karnataka State Co-Operative Marketing Federation Ltd. (KSCMF) at Vikas Nagar in Hubballi.Farmers from Byahatti, Kusugal, Sulla, Kiresur, Amaragol and other villages launched the agitation before being joined by several farmers from other villages.
