And today he made his singles return by beating Roman Safiullin, a player he had previously lost to, 6-4 6-4 6-4 on Arthur Ashe Stadium. Alcaraz, 23, put on a show on Arthur Ashe Stadium, although some fans were distracted by his outfit – which was a collaboration with Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack Nike brand. The American rapper even appeared in Alcaraz’s player box for the occasion. Former Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard, who is working for host broadcaster ESPN at the US Open, wrote on X: “Love you Carlos but we’ve got to put the nip away”. And several other fans also couldn’t help but remark on Alcaraz’s wardrobe malfunction. A third wrote: “Alcaraz played his whole match today with his nipples out”. Another added: “I’m not fan of seeing so much of Alcaraz’s nipple this US Open. This outfit is so bad.” Seven-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz was pleased with his level upon his return to the singles court. The Murcia man, who triumphed at the Australian Open this year prior to his injury woe, said: “It’s been a really tough five months for me. “So to be able to step into Arthur Ashe and be able to compete again… as I said before the tournament I couldn’t have decided to come back at a better tournament, here at the US Open, here in New York. “It’s a really special place for me, a special tournament for me. “I tried to enjoy as much as I can. I missed it. I missed the crowd, the energy. “I missed the competition. I missed everything, so I’m just really happy I was able to compete again.” Alcaraz will face Portuguese star Jaime Faria in round two.
