CARLOS ALCARAZ listened to requests to hide the nipple – and will not bear his chest during the rest of his US Open title defence. The Spaniard, 23, made a bold choice for his opening two rounds in New York by wearing a brown, almost see-through sleeveless tennis top. When he came out, he was wearing a white undergarment, underneath the same Nike vest, and he might stick with that attire for his Last-16 clash on Sunday against American Tommy Paul. Asked why he changed his outfit, the seven-time Grand Slam champion laughed: “Well I think I saw my nipple too much lately. “I felt like, you know, I could hide it for at least one match. “Will the nipple come back? I don’t know. I don’t think so. “I feel really comfortable with another shirt. So I think I’m gonna stay like that. Most read in Sport “It was my decision. I wouldn’t mind if I had to play again like that but if we could do something about it, I think it was good. “Maybe, you know, the second round was a little bit distracting for me, but not that much.” It did not go unnoticed by Bouchard, 32, who took a photo of Alcaraz in his latest appearance and said: “He listened.” The defending champion – on a 10-match winning streak at Flushing Meadows – wants to improve with every match this fortnight. And he is not showing any signs of the painful wrist injury that ruled him out for four-and-a-half months since the Barcelona Open in April. Alcaraz has been doing a bow-and-arrow celebration after every win, which some thought might be a reference to the new Odyssey film starring Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway. Having contested matches at Wimbledon, Roland Garros and the Australian Open, they will have now played at all four majors. World No.21 Paul said: “I think I’ve played him more than anybody on tour, which is kind of crazy. “He’s the test, him and Jannik Sinner. They have been playing great. “I guess Carlos, we haven’t really seen too much, but obviously doing pretty well coming right back to competition. “I’m going to have to play some pretty good tennis if I want to win that match, but I’m going to do my best. Hopefully I can.” Comment now
