YouTuber Dantics has revealed everything they found out about the cancelled Mass Effect: Universe during their time as a member of the "Mass Effect Council" that gave feedback to BioWare. The sudden closure of beloved gaming studio BioWare was already incredibly painful considering how many iconic games and franchises they helped craft in their 31 years of operation, but it's even worse since it means the end of the next Mass Effect. While BioWare had only shared a small number of details about the game during its development, it was already shaping up to be massive. That was quickly proven yesterday when a BioWare employee leaked the internal trailer for the next Mass Effect, named Mass Effect: Universe, which was being worked on and getting ready for showtime up until the studio's closure. Universe's trailer may have just been CG concept footage, but it was enough to show how much potential it had. Well, get ready for even more heartbreak. Mass Effect Council Member Shares Gameplay And Story Details About Universe No Matter What Ending You Picked, Shepard's Legacy Was "Preserved" Over on Twitter, YouTuber Dantics revealed that they were part of the "Mass Effect Council", a group of content creators who were shown what BioWare was up to with Universe and were able to give feedback. Dantics also put up a detailed YouTube video detailing the whole situation, which painfully claims Universe was "a lot further in development" than BioWare's messaging suggested. That claim was quickly backed up by just how much information Dantics had to share about Mass Effect: Universe, which would have taken place over 600 years after the Reaper War, and had you playing as a customisable protagonist who was a "cross between John Wick and James Bond". Shepard's legacy would apparently have been respected, regardless of what ending was picked. Universe's galaxy was split into three major factions: humanity, Krogan, Batarians, and more, with council races forming their own alliance and the Geth emerging as a third superpower. The way Dantics describes it is as a "galactic Cold War with another Reaper-style invasion", which sounds like exactly what we'd all want from a new Mass Effect. As for gameplay, our hero would have had experimental technology implanted in them that allowed hacking and environmental manipulation, similar to Cyberpunk 2077. The missions were said to be "handcrafted" like in the first three games, but with a Hitman-style freedom in how you complete them. While a lot of the details are things we saw in the leaked trailer, it's still more than a little heartbreaking to hear how much work had actually gone into the game and how much it was being fleshed out. It could have still been a long way out, but Universe is sounding more and more like the return that Mass Effect truly deserved.
