That is how dark and how hateful I feel.”Prosecutors told jurors the messages were sent months apart and before Ashley's death. As per ABC 6, he told authorities that an intruder killed his wife.The defense did not deny the affair. "Stated plainly, Caleb betrayed Ashley as a husband," defense attorneys said, as per ABC 6. They added, “A man can fail as a husband without being a murderer.”As per CNN, the defense said the state built its case on a theory of motive and would not be able to prove it beyond a reasonable doubt. The defense had earlier said authorities made a “rush to judgment.”What happened the night Ashley died?According to CNN, Ashley was shot and killed early on February 16 inside her home in Tipp City, Ohio. Flynn told investigators that he was sleeping in the living room because he had a bad cough. He said he was in his daughters’ room when he heard a gunshot and “froze,” according to police body camera footage.Flynn called 911 around 2:30 a.m. and said an intruder had broken into the house. “My wife, she's got two shots to her head. There's blood everywhere,” he said.Initial charging documents said officers were first “lead estray (sic) by the staging of the crime scene.” Authorities have not shared details about the alleged cover-up. Flynn has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence. If he is convicted of the most serious charge, he could be sentenced to life in prison without parole.
