The accident happened this morning in the north African nation's South Sinai region, local authorities said. The vehicle crashed on Dahab-Nuweibaa road, according to Egypt's health ⁠ministry.Twenty ambulances attended the crash to provide medical care to those injured, who were then taken to hospital. The 16 people killed were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are yet to confirm what caused the collision. The area is a popular tourist destination, known for its marine biodiversity, natural beauty and mountain hiking trails.Egyptian Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said all measures are being taken 'to provide the highest level of medical care to the injured'.A spokesperson for the ministry said: 'As soon as the report was received, the central operations room was activated, and 20 ambulances were directed to the scene of the accident to evacuate the injured and provide first aid.'
