And things beyond his control are now threatening to make things worse. America’s monstrous $40TRILLION national debt has started to alarm the money markets. Big Tech — especially the AI giants — are competing with the US Treasury for cash. Interest rates are rising and every increase sucks more cash out of heavily indebted countries such as Britain. Experts are predicting a recession within months. In this bleak landscape, the only growth to be seen is in unemployment, inflation, street crime — and the criminal trade in people-trafficking. It would take a very brave Prime Minister to regard this as a springboard for an early election. Comment now
