The British runner tested the Hyperion Elite 6 alongside other Brooks-sponsored athletes as the brand worked to create a lighter, faster shoe for road races.The new Brooks Hyperion Elite 6 costs $275 and comes in two colorways. The shoe’s standout features include Brooks’ DNA GOLD cushioning and updated carbon-fiber plate. Kerr wore custom Hyperion 222 track spikes for the attempt, but that one-of-a-kind model is not available to the public.The Hyperion Elite 6 offers runners another way to shop footwear developed with Kerr’s input. It is softer and lighter than the cushioning in the previous model, but it still provides the responsive feel runners expect from a race-day shoe.A redesigned SpeedVault+ carbon plate runs through the midsole. Brooks increased the angle of the plate and paired it with an updated RapidRoll rocker. The steeper curve at the front of the shoe helps move the foot toward toe-off during each stride.Brooks also adjusted the upper for a more secure race-day fit. The breathable material keeps the shoe light, while added structure around the forefoot provides support at faster paces.The Hyperion Elite 6 weighs 6.8 ounces and has a 7-millimeter midsole drop.
