British Airways Launches New 14-Hour Airbus A380 Route Next Week: See Flights Now

Ch-aviation shows that the oneworld member has 12 superjumbos, which is the same number as Singapore Airlines. BA's examples are being retrofitted with a lower-capacity, higher-premium, 421-seat layout. Next week, BA will reintroduce the double-decker quadjet between London Heathrow Airport (LHR) and Singapore Changi Airport (SIN). The type was flown to Lion City between 2014 and 2020. It returned in 2024 and operated until May 2025. Its return after 16 months will mean the airport pair will have three superjumbo operators again. BA's A380s From LHR To SIN On September 6, OAG data shows that BA's highest-capacity equipment will once again lift off from the UK's busiest airport to SIN. Given the continued inability to fly through Iran, Russia, and Ukraine, Flightradar24 shows that BA's flights cover approximately 6,040 nautical miles (11,186 km) each way. Given SIN's location, that's only about a 3% longer distance than the theoretical great circle, which illustrates the shortest distance between two airports. Perhaps influenced by the unease of connecting at Gulf hubs, BA will fly the A380 to SIN daily. It'll be the carrier's sole route to Southeast or East Asia on the type, as it is usually much more commonly deployed to North America and South Africa. Indeed, since BA ceased using the superjumbo to Hong Kong amid the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, only SIN has seen it in those regions. BA has two daily flights to SIN. One continues to Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD) and one is a so-called terminator service (the aircraft only flies to/from SIN). The 469-seat A380 will be on the latter. It'll replace the 254-seat Boeing 777-300ER, providing a substantial 85% additional seats each day. Capacity in first and business will rise by 32%, premium economy by 38%, and economy by 130%. Until the A380 is retrofitted with new cabins, the hard product might not be overly compelling. Between September 6 and the end of the year, they will collectively have four daily services between LHR and SIN. OAG data for this period indicate that it will be the world's second most-served A380-operated airport pair, after (you guessed it) Dubai International Airport (DXB) to LHR. That is despite BA suspending superjumbo services on that link, leaving Emirates as the sole user. In this period, BA will have five daily departures on the superjumbo from LHR. Compared to last winter, the type's activity will be down by 27%. This reflects aircraft being removed from service to be retrofitted with the new cabins. Only four routes will now see the double-decker: Miami (twice daily), Johannesburg (daily), San Francisco (daily), and SIN (daily). Last winter, the equipment was deployed on six routes: DXB (daily), Johannesburg (mainly twice daily), Los Angeles (mainly daily), Miami (mainly twice daily), San Francisco (mainly daily), and Washington Dulles (daily until November 7, 2026, only).
