Britain’s first indoor shopping centre reveals ‘major’ makeover after 50 years – plus go-karting and bowling attractions

A MAJOR revamp could soon be underway for Britain’s first every UK indoor shopping centre. The retail hub was first opened by King Charles, the former Prince of Wales, all the way back in 1976. The shopping centre wants to launch a new façade Property giant Hammerson has submitted plans for a major new façade at Brent Cross Shopping Centre in North London. The shopping hub, which is home to retailers such as Zara and H&M, is the UK’s first purpose-built enclosed retail destination. Harry Badham, chief development officer at Hammerson, said: “Brent Cross has always set the standard for retail destinations in the UK. “It’s a London original, and as we mark its 50th anniversary we’re focused on ensuring it remains relevant and successful for decades to come. “This new façade is a highly visible statement of that ambition — building on the significant investment we’ve already made to create a modern, dynamic destination for customers and brands alike.” It comes as new leisure and entertainment experiences have also been added, including TeamSport with go-karting and bowling which opened back in May. It also launched a new street foodhall last year. The 914,000 sq ft shopping centre welcomes over 30million cars passing and over 11million visitors each year. Most read in Money Comment now
