Brit, 72, killed and wife, 73, seriously injured in horror crash during vintage car rally in Italy

NewsWorld News A BRIT has been killed and his wife seriously injured after their vintage convertible careered off a road and flipped during a car rally in Italy. The 72-year-old man died at the scene of the horror smash while his 73-year-old wife was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries. The couple were travelling through the picturesque Chianti region in the province of Siena when disaster struck at around 1pm last Friday. The classic motor suddenly spun out before veering off the road and violently flipped onto its side. The brutal impact left the vehicle badly mangled as debris and shattered parts were strewn across the road. Emergency crews raced to the scene and desperately tried to save the British man. But despite frantic efforts, the 72-year-old was pronounced dead. His wife miraculously survived the devastating wreck but was left seriously injured. A rescue helicopter was scrambled to the scene before the 73-year-old was flown to Siena’s Le Scotte Hospital under a “code red” emergency status. Haunting pictures from the aftermath show the front of the red convertible badly wrecked following the impact. Chunks of the battered vehicle can also be seen scattered across the tarmac as emergency crews dealt with the carnage. It remains unclear what caused the driver to lose control. The tragedy comes after another crash involving three cars struck the same area just days earlier. A 38-year-old man from Poggibonsi suffered minor injuries in that collision. Comment now
