Brighton fan, 72, tragically dies after Aston Villa clash as he suffers medical emergency while leaving stadium

A BRIGHTON fan died after Sunday’s 4-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday, the club have confirmed. A Brighton fan died after their win against Aston Villa Credit: PA A 72-year-old man passed away Credit: Shutterstock Editorial The Seagulls wrote in a statement: “Following today’s game against Aston Villa, sadly a 72-year-old male Brighton & Hove Albion supporter passed away after the match. “The gentleman took unwell as he was leaving the stadium to board a supporters’ club bus in the coach park. Sign up for the Football newsletter Thank you! “Despite the best efforts of emergency services and club staff, the medical team were unable to save him.” CEO Paul Barber added: “What should have been an ordinary and happy journey home ended in heartbreaking circumstances, and we are all shocked and saddened by the loss of one of our supporters. “We extend our sincere condolences to the gentleman’s family and friends.” Brighton continue: “South East Coast Ambulance Service paramedics, St John’s Ambulance, Sussex Police, MB Medical Solutions, the club’s crowd doctor and our stewards worked together to ensure the individual was given the best possible care, including prolonged CPR on the scene.” It is the second year in a row in which a 72-year-old man has died after attending Brighton’s gameweek one clash. Someone also passed away 12 months ago after falling ill during their 1-1 draw at home to Fulham.
