Braves To Hire Perry Minasian As Senior Advisor

The Braves are bringing Perry Minasian back to their front office, reports Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Jesús Cano of The Athletic reports that Minasian will be a senior advisor in amateur scouting. That’s the same role that Dana Brown took when he rejoined the Braves’ front office last week. Minasian and Brown were both high-ranking Atlanta staffers — Brown as vice president of scouting, Minasian as assistant general manager — before getting opportunities to run AL West rivals. The Angels hired Minasian as their GM over the 2020-21 offseason; Brown got the same job with the Astros three years later. Both executives were dismissed by their former clubs within a couple months of one another over the summer. The Angels fired Minasian in late June and hired John Mozeliak on an interim basis. Houston moved on from Brown in August, and while the team technically announced it as a mutual parting of ways, owner Jim Crane has made clear it was essentially a unilateral decision. Although neither had an especially successful GM tenure, both are experienced talent evaluators who clearly still have the trust of longtime Atlanta president of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos. Minasian also had scouting experience with the Blue Jays when Anthopoulos was running the Toronto front office. The Angels failed to make the postseason during Minasian’s five and a half seasons running baseball operations. He inherited one of the more difficult situations in the league, as owner Arte Moreno steadfastly refused to rebuild despite the team’s inability to produce talent from within the farm system. That made some sense while the Halos had a ticking clock until Shohei Ohtani reached free agency. The Angels didn’t change their operating procedure after losing Ohtani to the Dodgers, though, and their past three seasons have been among the worst in franchise history. This year’s 62-100 record was the worst in the 66-year history of the organization. View Comments (7)
