Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight: War For Roshar Officially Kicks Off A Brand-New Era

Writing serves as a much-needed distraction from tackling a backlog of Steam games that will never be surmounted. Sign in to your ScreenRant account Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere setting never seems to take a breather, which is no surprise for those familiar with the prolific fantasy author. Sanderson's greatest strength is his seemingly superhuman speed at cranking out novels, which somehow manage to retain a level of quality beyond what other high-volume writers can maintain. On top of that, his unique worlds have started to appear in a wide array of supplementary releases, with ambitious projects ranging from a Mistborn deckbuilding game to several Cosmere-based tabletop roleplaying campaigns. Next up is Stormlight: War for Roshar, which has been the subject of some big announcements this summer. The official Brotherwise Games website describes Stormlight: War for Roshar as "an epic strategy war game," covering the conflict between the Coalition of Honor and the forces of Odium. A Kickstarter campaign for War for Roshar is officially set to launch on October 13, presumably offering some unique rewards along with a way to pre-order the upcoming game. War for Roshar's Kickstarter page draws comparisons to Star Wars: Rebellion and War of the Ring, two other large-scale war games based on popular franchises. Both are among the highest-rated games of all time via community ratings on BoardGameGeek, so War for Roshar is certainly setting its goals high. If Stormlight: War for Roshar manages to pull off anything close to its inspirations, it could be the start of a new age for the Cosmere, potentially bringing in new fans from the board gaming community and setting the stage for future expansions and other ambitious board game projects. That's all purely hypothetical, of course, but it does sound like something with potential. Designer John D. Clair has a strong reputation for making solid games, including the successful Mistborn: The Deckbuilding Game based on Sanderson's stories. War for Roshar also sounds like an interesting mix of strategic options, with IGN describing the experience as "between the abstractness of a Euro game and the analytic calculation of your typical war game." Fans of Brandon Sanderson are likely aware that the wait for the next mainline Stormlight Archive book will be long, as Sanderson is taking a breather between the first and second arcs of the series. In the meantime, Stormlight: War for Roshar could very well be the perfect way to return to the world in a way that matches the scope of the books.
