Alabama Life & CultureWill Friedle.Invision/APWill Friedle, known for playing Eric Matthews in the ABC sitcom “Boy Meets World,” is opening up about a painful health scare.During the Thursday, Oct. 8 episode of his “Pod Meets World” rewatch podcast, Friedle, 50, told his cohosts Danielle Fishel and Rider Strong about the ordeal.“I spent Saturday in the hospital,” he said. “I woke up badly peeing blood.”When Friedle left the bathroom, his wife, Susan Martens, told him he had “no color” in his face.“I was like, ‘Well, because I just peed it all away… I need to go to the hospital,’” Friedle recalled.During his six-hour stay in the hospital, Friedle said he felt the “most famous I’ve ever been in my life.” One nurse walked up to him and did the Feeny call, a greeting that Friedle’s “Boy Meets World” character invented to get Mr. Feeny’s (William Daniels) attention.Friedle said the nurse “couldn’t have been nicer” but he was internally thinking, “Just filled up a glass with blood, but thank you.”A CT scan showed that the actor was suffering from a kidney stone. Made up of minerals, acids and salts, kidney stones are hard masses that form inside the kidneys. Surgery is sometimes required to remove them, but often they can be passed naturally. Friedle was still waiting for his kidney stone to pass during the podcast recording. “I’m still in the midst of this thing,” he said, joking that he might have to “get up and run out” in the middle of the episode. Passing a kidney stone can be quite painful, so Friedle was prescribed OxyContin, a powerful opioid that can be addictive. “I’m going to do my best to not go anywhere near that stuff,” Friedle said. “Too many horror stories.”‘Boy Meets World’ star hospitalized for ‘badly peeing blood’Karen Read’s murder trial is becoming a TV show starring a popular actressReality TV stars split after nine years of dating: ‘Sick of not getting basic respect’‘Survivor’ host reacts to player’s stunning decision to quit: ‘Caught me off guard’Sara Donnellan is a trending entertainment news writer.
