‘Blippi’ Spinoff ‘Meekah’ Set at Moonbug Entertainment, the Studio Behind ‘Cocomelon’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Moonbug Entertainment, the studio that produces popular preschool series “Cocomelon” and “Blippi,” has set its newest series. “Meekah” will premiere on Nov. 7 on its own YouTube channel as a spinoff. A spinoff of “Blippi,” the series stars Lauren Vaz as Blippi’s best friend. Per the official description, “While Blippi loves discovering how things work, Meekah loves jumping in and seeing what she can do, turning everyday play into adventures where kids can bounce like an astronaut, kick like a soccer player, invent new dance moves and more. She is joined on select adventures by her Mini Movers, a group of young kids who move, dance, imagine and play alongside her. Together, they help bring each adventure to life while giving kids at home an easy way to follow along and join in.” On Nov. 2, Moonbug will debut a Meekah-led music video titled “Happy Place.” Then will come the official series premiere on Nov. 7, titled “Superhero Meekah Saves the City.” The episode will see Meekah and the Mini Movers defeat a giant cardboard robot. Moonbug also has plans to release a music video called “Bubble Pop” and a mermaid-themed episode that will help children practice different swim strokes and learn about ocean creatures and sustainability. New episodes will premiere every other Saturday and run for roughly 15 minutes. According to Moonbug, the series focuses on “imaginative storytelling, energetic physical play, games and original music, with adventures spanning fantasy role play, dance, creative challenges and more. Movements are designed to be big, clear and safe for preschoolers to try at home, with Meekah modeling checking for space and getting help from grown-ups.” Popular on Variety Aimed at ages 3-6, “Meekah” utilizes Moonbug’s core learning principles, a UCLA-backed initiative first reported on by Variety in April. In a June interview, the chief creative officer Rich Hickey expanded on the company’s four areas of focus: “navigating real-life moments, modeling positive relationships, promoting learning through play and telling authentically inclusive stories.” “Meekah has an incredible ability to ignite curiosity and make kids feel like they can jump right in with her,” said Lizzy Easterday, Senior Director of Creative at Moonbug Entertainment. “We wanted to build a series around that spirit, where kids aren’t just watching the adventure unfold – they’re part of it. Movement is at the heart of every episode, giving children opportunities to jump, dance, imagine and express themselves in their own way. It’s about inspiring curiosity, celebrating creativity, building confidence and reminding kids that there’s no one right way to play.” See a teaser for “Meekah” below.
