BEVERLEY Callard has revealed that the “worst is yet to come” as she gave an emotional update on her cancer battle. The much-loved soap star, 69, has been keeping fans up-to-date with her health journey after revealing that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in February. While appearing on RTE Radio, the I’m A Celebrity legend opened up about her cancer journey, but also talked about not being out of the woods yet. It was just numb really, it took a little while for it to sink in,” Bev explained. “I just decided to keep going to work, mainly because, you just sit at home thinking about it. Read more on Beverley Callard “I worked all that day, and the next day and the next day because there was nothing I could do.” Continuing, the star said: “I finished radiotherapy a couple of weeks ago. I don’t have the results yet, I’ve got to wait, I don’t know what the prognosis is and the next steps are but I coped with the radiotherapy well. Burnt skin, I was very nauseous, so tired, it wipes you and I didn’t think I would be. “(The treatment) isn’t frightening, the thought of cancer is frightening, but I have met the most wonderful people through this.” Bev has been open with fans about the gruelling side effects as she battles cancer, and last week revealed her treatment had left her “sore and tired”. The star told her followers: “I’ve got to speak to the hospital tomorrow. “I’m not sure that I’m healing as well as I should be. But I’m so burnt and it’s just driving me mad. “Also, incredibly nauseous.” What are the signs of breast cancer? Signs and symptoms Stay alert to symptoms of breast cancer which include: A lump or swelling in the breast, upper chest or armpit A change to the skin, such as puckering or dimpling A change in the colour of the breast – the breast may look red or inflamed A nipple change, for example, it has become pulled in (inverted) Rash or crusting around the nipple Unusual liquid (discharge) from either nipple Changes in the size or shape of the breast On its own, pain in your breasts is not usually a sign of breast cancer. But look out for pain in your breast or armpit that’s there all or almost all the time. Although rare, men can get breast cancer. The most common symptom of breast cancer in men is a lump in the chest area. Check your breasts There’s no special way to check your breasts and you do not need any training.
