Bethesda Updates Oblivion Remastered On Switch 2, Makes It Worse

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. Bethesda updates one of its existing, already-released games and, in the process, breaks it or makes it worse. This time around, it happened to Switch 2 owners of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, who report the game looks worse after the most recent patch. Late last week, Bethesda pushed out the 1.1 update for Oblivion Remastered on Switch 2. Nobody was expecting anything from this tiny update. And as expected, the patch notes are short and only mention a few minor fixes. Nothing interesting. Certainly nothing game-breaking or whatever. However, players who have installed the new update are reporting that the remastered RPG now features ugly visual artifacts and looks blurrier overall, leading some to try to figure out a way to get rid of the unwanted update while they wait for an official fix. As spotted by NintendoLife, over the last few days players on Reddit and Twitter have been complaining about downgraded visuals and sharing screenshots of how much blurrier the Switch 2 port of Oblivion looks now. And ghosting artifacts seem much worse, with players sharing short clips that demonstrate that after patch 1.1, Oblivion on Switch 2 just doesn’t look as good or as stable as before. “It looks terrible! What did they do? Everything looks so blurry and crappy. They messed something up,” posted a Reddit user after updating the game. One popular theory is that Oblivion‘s use of DLSS on Switch 2 has been turned off or altered in some unintended way, and that’s causing the blurred imagery and ghosting. Some Switch 2 owners are turning off auto-update and going offline so their copy of Oblivion doesn’t update. Others who bought a physical copy are deleting and uninstalling the game, then reinstalling it offline via the physical cart in an attempt to play a less blurry version, though Bethesda support apparently warned at least one player that doing this could corrupt save files. Multiple Switch 2 owners have contacted Bethesda support about the 1.1 update causing the game to look worse and shared messages from the company claiming it is aware of the problem and is working on a fix. Hopefully that forthcoming update doesn’t break Oblivion Remastered in some new, annoying way.
