Todd Howard confirms what fans already expected Image: Bethesda Softworks Sign in to your Polygon.com account Bethesda has finally revealed the name of the next Elder Scrolls game. The long-awaited RPG will be titled The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel. Just a few days ago, fans of the series started theorizing this would be the title and now it's confirmed. Todd Howard made the announcement in a video celebrating Bethesda Softworks 40th anniversary. While we still don't know much about the follow-up to The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, the 40th anniversary video did hint at a setting for the next entry. Here's a quote shown after the game's logo reveal. “The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate.” - Yazar, Moth Priest of High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell (4E 206) This places Sentinel five years after the events of Skyrim. Before the logo reveal, the short teaser shows a scroll buried underneath a sand dune. Unfortunately, Howard didn't share anything more substantial about the game, such as a full trailer or release date. It seems like it is still a long ways off, despite having been initially revealed all the way back in 2018. In another piece of information that may turn you to dust, this month also marks fifteen years since Skyrim released. Let's hope that we won't be celebrating the game's 20th anniversary before we actually get our hands on Sentinel. Sentinel has been shrouded in mystery since it's initial reveal, but recently we've gotten some promising updates on the RPG. This August, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma visited Bethesda and posted about her experience playing the game, writing that, "The scale and grandeur are incredible. The story is even greater." The studio visit occurred while Bethesda workers and union members protested the recent wave of layoffs and studio closures that Xbox has enacted. Xbox also continues to be a priority target of the BDS movement's boycott campaigns. Image: Bethesda As previously mentioned, Bethesda and Xbox have kept pretty tight-lipped about Sentinel. That's why even the game's title reveal is a big deal. Still, there are even more rumors about what the next Elder Scrolls game will be about. The latest reports suggest that the game will take place in Hammerfell, a region that is largely defined by a massive desert. The logo reveal's use of sand backs this up. It is also rumored that Sentinel's story will focus on the history of the Elder Scrolls themselves. The objects that give the series its title are pretty mysterious magical artifacts that can hold archives of the past or prophecies about the future. They have largely been used as plot devices across the games, but their actual origin is still unknown. Hopefully, Sentinel's official name reveal is just the beginning of Bethesda sharing more information on the anticpated RPG.
