Bernie’s cancer results confirmed on Coronation Street as Kit loses it

(Picture: ITV) There’s not much sunshine for the Winter family right now in Coronation Street, and it’s about to get worse. Following the death of an estranged aunt, Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove)’s world was turned upside down by the discovery that theBRCA gene runs in the family. This means, that her children Gemma Winter-Brown (Dolly-Rose Campbell) and Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) could be at risk from the disease, as well as her grandson Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey). This is of course very distressing for Bernie, who has already experienced the tragic loss of her son Paul Foreman (Peter Ash), who lost his life to Motor Neurone Disease. Needless to say, the revelation has sent the family into a panic and they’re all getting tested. Unfortunately, it’s too late for Kit.Unbeknownst to his mother, sister and son, he’s already been tested. and the results aren’t good. He was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. Kit’s diagnosis has turned his world upside down. (Picture: ITV) The Cobbles copper was hit by a bolt from the blue as he learnt that he would need further tests to determine the best course of treatment, butthe most likely outcome would be a mastectomy. The only person he’s confided in so far isn’t even in his family. It’s Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), who has since been determined to be there for Kit – who is not exactly making it easy for him. So far, Todd has agreed to keep Kit’s secret. But this is Soapland, and secrets usually have a pretty short shelf-life. Especially with Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) sniffing around, who has already had to cover for Kit at work. In tonight’s episode, Lisa puts pressure on Kit to find the murderer of a victim called Luke Cookson, who had died after an assault led to a bleed on the brain. With his secret health crisis weighing heavy on his mind, Kit’s fresh out of patience and snaps at Lisa, who waste no time voicing her concerns to Bernie. Will Lisa figure out what’s bothering Kit before it costs him his job? (Picture: ITV) Kit’s temper only gets worse when he chases after a young lad, accusing him of murdering Luke and spoiling for a rumble. How did it go? Not well apparently, as Kit is sporting two black eyes by the time he joins the family for pizza night. Worried for him, Bernie tells Kit that she has a good feeling about her cancer test and is certain she’ll get the all clear. However, that’s less than certain in next week’s trip to the Cobbles, where a trip to hospital leads to a furious confrontation for the Winter clan. Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) and Kit accompany Bernie to her appointment. In the waiting room she tells them she knows in her heart of hearts that her test will prove negative.
