He also pointed out that body-shaming should not be dismissed as a joke simply because the person being described is a man. Subko Coffee Roasters later responded to the incident with a public apology on Instagram. The restaurant acknowledged the complaint and said it wanted to address the issue openly rather than deal with it quietly.“Some things you fix quietly. Others you fix out loud, because staying quiet is how the culture that allowed it survives,” the restaurant said in its statement.Addressing the customer directly, Subko said it was sorry “not for how it looked” but “for what it was” and invited him to contact its Internal Complaints Commission (ICC), which handles grievance redressal, through a form linked in its Instagram bio.The restaurant also made its stance clear, stating that “Fat shaming is wrong. Every form. Every time. No exceptions.”Take a look at the post here:The incident triggered a debate online, with some users appreciating Subko for acknowledging the mistake publicly and taking accountability instead of dismissing the complaint.Others, however, criticised the restaurant, arguing that the description was disrespectful and that a customer's body should never be used as a label or identifier. Some also said that calling out the incident was justified, particularly because such remarks could easily be passed off as harmless humour despite being hurtful to the person involved.- EndsPublished By: Yashna TalwarPublished On: Aug 22, 2026 09:47 IST
