However, a performance review changed his plans, leaving him worried about his job and his long-awaited family visit. In a post on Reddit's r/developersIndia community titled “Planned for Dussehra holidays in my hometown with my family. Today my manager put me under PIP,” the employee explained how his manager informed him that his performance was below expectations and subsequently refused his request for two days off.“Today, we had my performance review, and he put me on a PIP, saying I wasn't delivering the expected output or performance. Later, I asked him for two days of leave to spend time with my family for the occasion. But he rejected my request, saying that since I'm on a PIP, he can't grant me any leave,” he said. The employee also claimed that he had not received any written confirmation of the PIP. His manager had denied him leave on an earlier occasion as well, even when he was not on a performance improvement plan.“What should I do now? I'm really confused and stressed,” he said, adding that he had not visited his hometown in a long time and that his parents were eagerly waiting for him to arrive. In the comments section of the post, several users encouraged the employee to prioritise his family visit while preparing for the possibility of a job change.“Just go home. He's not your school principal, and you don't need permission,” one user commented.Another advised the employee to use the holiday to spend time with his family while beginning a job search: “Go home, enjoy the festival, and start looking for another job. A PIP is the new layoff strategy.”Others urged him to consider his options before resigning, suggesting that he start looking for another job if he believed he would struggle to meet the PIP requirements.“Before they initiate the PIP, you should put in your papers, serve your notice period, and happily visit your hometown. PIPs rarely have a positive outcome. If you believe you won't be able to pass it, don't overthink it. Start job hunting after your holidays,” one of the comments on the post read.Another user was more blunt in their assessment of the situation, saying, “Start looking for your next job. Your manager has already made up his mind.”- Ends
