BDA seeks nod to fell 1,128 trees for short tunnel in Bengaluru, GBA invites objections

The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has issued a public notice inviting objections and suggestions.The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has submitted an application seeking permission to axe 1,128 trees along Hebbal road for the construction of a three-lane, bi-directional road underpass between Hebbal Junction and UAS via Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University (KVAFSU).The development comes amid a massive backlash against the project from citizen groups, who have repeatedly cited the massive environmental impact likely to be caused. Recently, an awareness walk at Hebbal Lake was also planned to discuss the impact of mega infrastructure projects on the environment, but it was cancelled following police intervention through notices.The GBA has given 10 days to submit comments and objections to the permission sought by the BDA, which has already begun ground work near the project site.Objections can be submitted directly to the Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) and Tree Officer of the GBA at the authority’s head office.
