Band who joined Oasis at Knebworth in 1996 would ‘love’ to return for Live 27

Ocean Colour Scene, who supported Oasis at one of their original 1996 Knebworth concerts, have said they would “love” to return for next year’s Live 27 shows at the venue.Oasis, led by brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, announced they would return to the Hertfordshire park on September 11, 12, 18, and 19 next year as part of a new 38-show tour which will also see them perform at venues including Glasgow’s Celtic Park, Manchester’s Etihad Stadium and Ireland’s Slane Castle.During their set at Knebworth on August 10, 1996, Ocean Colour Scene played some of their best known hits such as The Day We Caught The Train and The Riverboat Song as well as a cover of The Small Faces’ Song Of A Baker to a crowd of 125,000 people, and they hope they will be able to repeat it.Asked whether the band would want to play at the upcoming Knebworth shows, singer Simon Fowler told the Press Association: “I’d love to, why not if they give us the nod?”Oasis will return to Knebworth next year (Doug Peters/PA)PA WireBut despite their clear affection for the day, the band say they cannot remember much about their first performance at Knebworth.Fowler added: “Quite frankly, I can remember the terrifying opening and the (thousands of) arms in the air.. but I can’t remember anything in between.”Guitarist Steve Craddock interjects: “I don’t have any recollections of the day.”Fowler continues: “I remember getting your dad’s cine camera, and I said, ‘wwhat do you do?’, he said, ‘press this button’, so I walked up to the crowd, pressed the button, and they went arms in the air like that.“And I was barely able to to think of how to walk, because I was terrified, we probably started with Riverboat, and I cannot remember anything until the end of the gig when we did The Day We Caught The Train.“Isn’t that disgraceful, it was one of the biggest days of our lives, and neither of us can remember it.”Ocean Colour Scene will embark on a 30th anniversary tour of their Moseley Shoals album, which reached number two in the UK albums chart in 1996, with gigs at London’s The O2, Glasgow’s OVO Hydro, Cardiff’s Utilita Arena, and Belfast’s Telegraph Building, beginning in November.
