Sign in to your TheGamer account Avengers: Endgame was the highest-grossing movie ever at the box office once upon a time. That title was taken from it by Avatar when James Cameron’s blockbuster was re-released for its tenth anniversary. Well, Avatar has now been given a taste of its own medicine, as Endgame is back on top. Endgame Is Dominating At The Box Office Ahead Of Doomsday Endgame was re-released in theaters two weeks ago under a tweaked name - Avengers Endgame: Encore. That re-release has made $126 million at the box office and counting, and that’s enough to put it back above Avatar in the all-time global box office rankings, as recorded by Box Office Mojo. Endgame’s new, still-rising total is $2.925 billion, just $2 million more than the $2.923 billion Avatar is now on after its second theatrical run a few years ago. Endgame will open that gap up a little more by the time it leaves theaters again, likely later this month, but it has already done enough to once again become the biggest movie in history. As was the case with Avatar’s re-release in 2022, Endgame: Encore has been visually improved and includes new footage. That footage is, arguably, more important than the new scenes added to Avatar, as the whole point of their inclusion is to better tie the last Avengers movie to Avengers: Doomsday, which is now less than three months away. The next part of this article details the scenes added to Endgame: Encore. How Encore Ties Endgame To Doomsday There are three scenes in Endgame: Encore that were added to bridge the gap between it and Doomsday. The first is technically an extension of a scene that closed the original version of the movie. Instead of ending on Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter dancing, there’s a knock at the door. It’s Loki who tells them he can help, although right now, we don’t know what that means exactly. The second scene shows Bruce Banner locked away underground, the result of him losing control thanks to Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Doctor Doom infiltrates the impenetrable bunker and steals Hulk. The third and final scene gives the metal-on-metal sound a visual as we’re shown Doom forging his iconic mask. Now we wait to see if Doomsday is going to be big enough that Endgame’s return to the top of the box office heap is a short-lived one. While it has felt like the world has been suffering from MCU fatigue for the past few years, the re-release of a seven-year-old movie making $126 million at the box office, combined with Brand New Day becoming the third highest-grossing movie ever, seems to indicate the world is over that and ready for more. If that’s true, Doomsday may well be number one by early 2027. Release Date September 25, 2026 Runtime 185 Minutes
