Artificial trailer: Andrew Garfield as Sam Altman in OpenAI's wild ride

The trailer for Andrew Garfield’s upcoming film Artificial is out, offering a first look at the actor as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. The trailer explores Altman’s vision for artificial intelligence, the launch of ChatGPT, and the turmoil that followed. Garfield’s Altman is seen discussing his vision for artificial intelligence and the impact of ChatGPT. At one point, he reflects on the consequences of the technology’s release, saying it has “opened Pandora’s box”.Artificial is set against one of the most dramatic chapters in OpenAI’s history. In November 2023, Altman was removed as CEO by the company’s board, which said he had not been consistently honest in his communications with them. According to the board, this had affected its ability to carry out its responsibilities. Altman’s ouster, however, was short-lived. Mira Murati, played by Monica Barbaro in the film, was appointed interim CEO. Within days, Altman returned to OpenAI and resumed his position as CEO. According to People, the film also features Ike Barinholtz as Elon Musk, one of OpenAI’s co-founders. Cooper Hoffman, Jason Schwartzman and Mark Rylance are also part of the cast.Directed by Luca Guadagnino, Artificial has been written by Simon Rich, who previously worked as a writer on Saturday Night Live.
